I am a brand new painter with limited experience. Nonetheless, he taught me how to do several important elements I have been struggling with, like rocks and foliage. And I made a beautiful painting that still can’t believe I painted!!
To my surprise, Josh changed my entire perspective on painting!! He has such a positive attitude and explains his process for doing paintings. The one that stuck with me of “let’s try this and see what happens” vs I am normally terrified to screw up, is a game changer for me!

He gave me the courage to really push myself outside of my comfort zone and I am so grateful!!

I majored in fine arts at the University of Oregon but had not touched an oil paint since spring term 2006. So when a friend asked me to join her for a class with Josh and I impulsively agreed, I wasn’t sure what to expect of the class, the instructor or myself. I walked out of there a new woman, I am completely serious. I had SO much fun learning from Josh and cannot stop marveling over the painting I created (we haven’t eaten at the dining room table since, because my beautiful portrayal of a mountain, ocean waves and aurora borealis are currently on an easel taking up that prime real estate thank you very much). Josh is the kind of artist who encourages you to get you into your materials, embraces the Bob Ross school of Happy Accidents, and overall makes what could easily feel like an austere and out of touch genre of art (Oil Painting, the stuff of the Renaissance) very accessible and achievable regardless of previous experience. I will attend another class in the future, that is for certain.
